Old Fashion Donuts

Ingredients

2 ½ cups flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 cup sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

2 eggs, beaten

1 tbsp soften shortening

1 tsp Vanilla

1 cup milk

 

Sift together all dry ingredients.  Beat eggs, then add shortening, vanilla and milk.  Beat together for 30 seconds.  Add dry ingredients, beat until smooth.

 

Brush donut maker with light coating of vegetable oil and fill with batter.

 

Deep fry at 365 degrees in melting shortening.  Turn down to brown evenly, approximately 1 minute per side.  Drain on paper towel.

 

Makes about 2 dozen donuts.

 

 

Donuts

Servings 2 dozen

1 cup sugar

34 teaspoons nutmeg

14 teaspoons salt

34 teaspoon cinnamon

12 teaspoons baking powder

2 tablespoons liquid shortening (or vegetable oil)

12 teaspoon vanilla

2 eggs, beaten

1 cup milk

3 cups flour

Mix sugar, spices, salt, and baking powder.

Add shortening and vanilla, mix.

Add eggs, mix.

Add milk and flour, mix.

Drop into hot oil using donut dropper. (if mixture is too thick mix in a bit of milk-too thin a bit of flour).

Fry in oil turning when first crack appears. -be careful not to crowd.

Remove and place on either a drying rack or brown paper bag to drain oil.
